C.W. Slade

Contemporary Mixed Media Artist

Born in Los Angeles, C.W. Slade divides her time between the vibrant energy of the city and the quiet majesty of Mammoth Lakes, California. These contrasting environments provide an endless source of inspiration, allowing her creative practice to move fluidly between spontaneity and intention, intuition and exploration.

At the heart of her work is an insatiable curiosity. Fascinated by the world around her, Slade finds inspiration in the unexpected—in fragments of memory, the written word, the natural world, and the mysteries of everyday life.

"Curiosity is what drives me. Almost everything interests me, which can be both exhilarating and overwhelming.
My studio is my sanctuary, a place where I can make sense of it all.
It is where I leave my thinking at the door and allow my heart to enter."

A contemporary mixed media artist, Slade works across painting, collage, and printmaking, weaving together elements of travel, philosophy, poetry, and personal experience to create a visual language distinctly her own.

A storyteller at heart, she approaches the artistic process as an exploration of life's mysteries. Beneath the surface of her compositions, layers of color, form, texture, and language reveal fragments of meaning, inviting the viewer to look beyond the obvious and discover something personal.

Recognizable imagery emerges and recedes within abstract compositions, creating a bridge between the artist's inner world and the viewer's imagination. Rather than offering a single interpretation, her work encourages curiosity, reflection, and the freedom to find one's own story within the painting.

Central to Slade's philosophy is the belief that authenticity in art emerges through the act of creation itself. By surrendering preconceived ideas and allowing intuition to guide the process, she embraces the unexpected discoveries that give each piece its individuality.

A lifelong artist, Slade has pursued her artistic education at the Otis Institute of Art in Los Angeles, as well as through studies in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and Florence, Italy. She has also studied privately with several acclaimed artists, continually expanding her creative vocabulary. Her work is held in numerous private collections throughout the United States and Europe.

For C.W. Slade, art is not simply about creating something beautiful. It is about remaining curious, embracing the unknown, and discovering what lies beneath the surface.
